PARIS-Qualcomm Inc. has sold its equity interest in Technicolor Digital Cinema to Thomson, a provider of video technologies, products and services and parent of Technicolor, making Thomson sole owner of the company, which was formed as a joint venture in 2000.
Under their agreement, Technicolor will acquire exclusive rights to manufacture, sell and service the multiscreen Theatre Management System (TMS) designed by Qualcomm, and Qualcomm will continue to develop and market digital cinema products and technologies including decoder modules, encoders and conditions access systems.
“Our intent has always been to offer the industry options,” said Dave Elliott, president of Technicolor Entertainment Services and chief executive officer of Technicolor Digital Cinema. “By restructuring the joint venture, we expand customer choice while at the same time restoring Technicolor’s legacy to service multiple architecture and enhancing Qualcomm’s ability to market their advanced digital cinema technologies.”
