SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc.’s BREW application download service could pop up in Russia through a new agreement between the technology giant and Delta Telecom, a cellular operator in the northwest region of Russia.
The companies signed a preliminary agreement for Delta Telecom to launch BREW services by June 30.
“As Russia’s first operator to commercialize new generation services, Delta Telecom prides itself on leading the way with the launch of innovative wireless services,” said Gennady Golant, Delta’s deputy chief executive officer. “With Qualcomm’s support and cooperation, we expect to become the first operator in Russia to launch useful and entertaining value-added services, and we will continue to work jointly to promote advanced technologies for bringing new services to the marketplace faster and efficiently.”
Separately, Hutchison CAT MultiMedia Ltd. recently launched BREW services in Thailand under the brandname Hutch.
The news comes as Qualcomm has been signing up a variety of new content and technology deals for the BREW service, including agreements with Superscape for 3D technology and with Indiagames for games.
Verizon Wireless and several other carriers across the world have launched application download services through BREW.
