Western Wireless Corp. launched its OpenDoor wireless Internet access service for its Cellular One customers using the carrier’s CDMA2000 1x network in select markets in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas. The carrier noted the service, which uses Qualcomm Inc.’s BREW platform, is accessible through a number of devices including PC cards, 1x-enabled handsets or by linking a handset to a laptop computer. Customers signing up for the service before Jan. 31 will receive unlimited data transmission for life for $60 per month, with additional rate plans available at select Cellular One retail and authorized dealer locations.
