LOS ANGELES-Telemac Corp. said the Australian patent office granted it a patent covering a system and method for managing prepaid wireless services.
The patent, Australian Patent No. 764213, covers methods of prepaid wireless service where the accounting functions are performed within network-edge devices-such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants and subscriber identity modules-and the tariff data within the network-edge device is updated over the air by data bearing communications such as short message service messages, said the company. Other aspects covered by the patent include updating the available credit within wireless devices over the air, disabling wireless devices that exceed available credit, using a service to detect fraud and disable wireless devices involved and enabling customer service representatives to disable wireless devices over the air.
