Diversinet works with Chinese company on m-commerce

TORONTO-Diversinet Corp. and China’s Guangdong Electronic Certification Authority recently began working together to stimulate China’s emerging mobile commerce and mobile digital certificates market.

Under the partnership, the companies will use Diversinet’s Passport ONE security infrastructure software to implement the m-cert system. Guangdong will operate the system and issue the m-certs, and the companies will partner for joint sales and marketing activities to promote m-certs and m-commerce solutions.

“China is still primarily a cash-based society where people rarely use credit cards, but there is significant mobile-phone penetration,” explained Nagy Moustafa, president and chief executive officer of Diversinet. “Mobile phones offer tremendous potential for electronic transactions, eliminating the need for cash transactions, and in turn, facilitating other kinds of m-commerce. Our relationship with Guangdong offers us tremendous opportunity in this emerging market.”

The Passport ONE solution supports mobile devices, including Palm, Pocket PC, Symbian and BlackBerry.
