BELLEVUE, Wash.—InfoSpace Inc. quietly launched its long-awaited direct-to-consumer effort with an Internet storefront hawking mobile ringtones, graphics and games.
The site, www.moviso.com, offers content at tiered subscription levels as well as a la carte. The content is available to subscribers of Cingular Wireless L.L.C., Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA Inc.; Verizon Wireless is expected to support the offering as well.
InfoSpace executives for months have publicly discussed the company’s plans to go directly to consumers. The firm joins a host of media companies and other content providers looking to circumvent crowded carrier decks, create brand awareness and carve out more attractive revenue-share deals with operators.
InfoSpace is expected to announce the Web site’s official launch later this week.
