The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular

  • Kuwait: Nokia Corp. said it won a contract to expand Wataniya Telecom’s HSDPA radio and core network.

 

Wi-Fi

  • Japan: NTT West chose Strix Systems Inc. to provide its Strix Access/One Network Outdoor Wireless System and Indoor Wireless System for the carrier’s multi-service mesh network in the country.

 

Miscellaneous

  • Canada: Nortel Networks is providing a high-speed wireless network to the Bell Centre in Montreal.

     

  • China: Juniper Networks Inc. said China Mobile plans to deploy its Infranet Controller 4000 appliances to secure access to the carrier’s corporate networks.

     

  • Israel: Nortel Networks launched a municipal wireless mesh network trial in the city of Ariel for a year-long test as part of Ariel’s Smart City program.

     

  • United Kingdom: WFI said it won a multimillion dollar contract to continue providing 2G and 3G network design and optimization services for O2.
