SAN DIEGO-Qualcomm Inc. said the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office plans to re-examine one patent at issue in the ongoing war between Qualcomm and Broadcom Corp.
The two companies are engaged in heated battles surrounding antitrust and patent-infringement claims.
According to Qualcomm, the USPTO said it will re-examine the validity of one of Broadcom’s patents, a patent Broadcom alleges that Qualcomm has infringed on.
However, the move appears to be relatively minor since an administrative law judge with the International Trade Commission earlier this month said Qualcomm did not infringe on the patent that is being re-examined. The judge did rule that Qualcomm was infringing on another of Broadcom’s patents. The issue is headed to the full ITC next year.
