Intercasting Corp. announced that it raised $12 million in a second round of funding. The San Diego-based company said it will use the money to expand on carrier-based distribution and partners for its mobile social networking application, Rabble, and its social networking service gateway, Anthem Platform.
The 3-year-old company currently has partnerships with AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, MetroPCS Communications Inc., Virgin Mobile and 3UK, as well as a number of popular social networking sites.
“The level of confidence shown by investors in our series B round demonstrates the validity of Intercasting’s approach to social networking on the mobile platform,” CEO and Founder Shawn Conahan said. “The social networking and user-generated content phenomena are quickly migrating to the mobile space, and Anthem is providing the efficiency necessary for carriers to take full advantage of this networking trend.”
The funding was led by Venrock and existing backers Avalon Ventures and Masthead Venture Partners.
