Workers with wireless technology expertise could have an edge in the job market in coming years, according to a new study.
“A survey of more than 3,500 information technology managers reveals that wireless and RF mobile technology is the skill set expected to increase the most in importance over the next five years,” said Computing Technology Industry Association. “In all but two of 14 countries surveyed, I.T. managers said wireless skills will increase the most in importance over the next five years. Wireless skills ranked second in South Africa (behind security) and France (behind Web-based technologies).”
The survey, conducted by the Center for Strategy Research for CompTIA, found that I.T. managers in healthcare and education tended to identify wireless technology skills as the most important for at least the next five years. Tech managers in the auto manufacturing sector put less emphasis on wireless skill sets.
Other skills expected to be in demand in the near term, according to CompTIA, include Web-based technologies (such as Web 2.0, Service Oriented Architecture, Software-as-a-Service, Rich Internet Applications, and AJAX) and specific programming languages.
CompTIA, based in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., is a leading high-tech trade group.
