Venture capital financing wrap-up: Invensense and Obopay

The following list includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced during the past week. The value of the investment is included when available.

Invensense: Sierra Ventures led a $19 million round of funding into Invensense Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based provider of motion sensing solutions for mobile consumer applications. The Series C funding round also included participation from Foxconn, Inventec Appliances Corp., Skylake Ventures, DoCoMo Capital and VentureTech Alliance. Ben Yu, managing director at Sierra Ventures, will join the company’s board of directors as part of the financing. Invensense said it will use the funding to expand sales operations.

Obopay: Essar Communications Holdings Ltd. led a $20 million round of funding into mobile payments company Obopay Inc., which is based in Redwood City, Calif. Existing investors Alliance Bernstein, Onset Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Richmond Management, Citi, Societe Generale, Qualcomm and Promethean India also participated. The company also named K B Rajendran, senior VP at Essar Global Ltd., and Robert G. Hottensen Jr., senior VP for public equity at Olayan America Corp., to its board of directors.
