Apple Inc. (AAPL) has now served more than 10 billion app downloads. Since launching the App Store in June 2008, Apple’s presence in the mobile space has grown considerably.
The company surpassed 3 billion downloads just a year ago. Near the close of 2010, Apple had sold more than 160 million cumulative devices running on its iOS operating system, including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
Taken on pure average downloads per device, 62.5 apps have been installed on every iOS-powered device in the marketplace today. At last count, Apple boasted more than 350,000 apps available in 90 countries. Native apps for iPads now also number above 60,000.
“With more than 10 billion apps downloaded in just two and a half years — a staggering seven billion apps in the last year alone — the App Store has surpassed our wildest dreams,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s SVP of worldwide product marketing. “The App Store has revolutionized how software is created, distributed, discovered and sold. While others try to copy the App Store, it continues to offer developers and customers the most innovative experience on the planet.”
In other Apple-related news, BGR has spotted the elusive white iPhone 4 popping up in the retail systems for Best Buy Co. Inc. (BBY) and AT&T Mobility (T).
