Movers & Shakers: Nokia Siemens announces appointments; FCC attorney joins Jenner & Block; and more

Nokia Siemens Networks has appointed Eduardo Araujo to lead its business in Latin America. Araujo, a Brazilian national, joins the company from Ingram Micro Corporation where he was president of its Latin American region. Araujo has previously held senior regional leadership roles for Hewlett-Packard in Latin America and the Caribbean. He will be based in Dallas, Texas, and his appointment is effective from May 18 2011.

Nokia Siemens Networks appoints Amiram Mel to lead Business Solutions. Amiram Mel will join Nokia Siemens Networks as head of Business Solutions on June 1, 2011. Mel will also join the company’s executive board. Business Solutions is one of Nokia Siemens Networks’ three business divisions alongside Network Systems and Global Services.

American Communications, supplier of telecom hardware and services, announced that Gordon Smith has joined the company as Chief Operating Officer. Smith will oversee Sales, Operations, Finance, Repair Services and Overall Company Operations. Prior to joining American Communications, Smith was Vice President of Services for Tempest Telecom Solutions, launching the Repair and Professional Services businesses and developing offerings for Telecom Carriers and Private Network customers.

Former high-level FCC attorney Ajit V. Pai has joined Jenner & Block as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Pai comes to the Firm from the Office of the General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission, where he has served as Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, and Special Advisor to the General Counsel. He will be a member of the Firm’s nationally recognized Communications Practice.

QLogic Corp, supplier of high performance network infrastructure solutions, announced the appointment of Jean Hu to the position of Senior Vice President and CFO. Hu has over 18 years of financial and corporate development experience which includes her most recent position as Senior Vice President, CFO and Treasurer of Conexant Systems, a semiconductor communications systems solution company. Hu has been at Conexant and its predecessor company, Rockwell International, since 1997.

Acer Inc.’s board of directors has approved the candidacy of Jim Wong as the new Corporate President, with immediate effect. Wong previously held the positions of corporate senior vice president and president of IT Products Group (ITGO). In 2001 he took charge of the ITGO and has been one of the core members of Acer’s top management team. In 2005 he was promoted to corporate senior vice president.
