NEEDHAM, Mass.-Turkcell, the largest mobile operator in Turkey, has deployed a reverse charging service using technology from Brooktrout Technology Inc. Turkcell’s service allows prepaid mobile-phone users to call other subscribers and request that the called party pays for the call.
The reverse charging application uses Brooktrout’s TR1000 voice processing platform for interactive voice response capabilities and the NS700 to provide signaling functions. Subscriber initiated Unstructured Supplementary Service Data sessions are routed to a USSD gateway, which is also based on Brooktrout’s NS700.
The USSD data includes the number the subscriber wishes to dial. The request is processed and then forwarded to a controlling application that identifies the nearest reverse charging server. The server uses the NS700 to call the desired number and an announcement is played by the TR1000 to the called parties, asking if they wish to receive the call. If they accept, a second call is placed to the calling party, and the two legs are conferenced together.
