SEOUL, South Korea-Wireless data behemoth WiderThan expanded its mobile music offerings Wednesday, launching a global service to deliver ringtones, ring-back tones, music videos and streaming tunes.
The sister company of Korean carrier SK Telecom unveiled WiderMusic, an open standards platform being offered to operators worldwide. The service includes license management, content creation and delivery of music content, and can be extended to support new music services coming to market.
“As the dynamic mobile entertainment industry matures, the need for enhanced services and simplified management of these new services increases as mobile operators seek to stay ahead of their competitors,” said Sang-Jun Park, WiderThan’s chief executive officer. “Our newest offering, the WiderMusic Service Platform, offers operators worldwide the technology and services they need to efficiently deliver the most comprehensive, end-to-end music services to their mobile customers.”
WiderThan delivers ringtones, ring-back tones and multimedia messaging offerings to North American wireless users through subsidiary Ztango.
