LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.-Over-the-air software developer Bitfone Corp. said it has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from Qualcomm Inc.
The investment is the latest from the chipmaker’s strategic investment arm, adding to Qualcomm’s portfolio of companies driving the market for third-generation services. Bitfone said it will use the capital to continue its work in developing OTA technology for BREW-enabled handsets, allowing carriers to remotely manage phones.
“Qualcomm Ventures invested in and executed a strategic agreement with Bitfone because it sees the company’s technology as an important element of the wireless value chain,” said Prashant Kantak, senior director of business development for Qualcomm’s investment group. “Bitfone’s over-the-air device management solutions provide a faster time-to-market path, significant cost savings and risk reduction for manufacturers and operators rapidly deploying increasingly sophisticated handset devices by avoiding recalls and manual repairs of device software.”
