BroadSoft Inc.
(BSFT) is aiming to bring mobile video calling to the business community, giving operators an opportunity to sell enhanced services and businesses an opportunity to increase productivity, said Broadsoft VP Leslie Ferry.
Broadsoft’s 350 employees operate in 21 countries and have been testing the video-conferencing service, Ferry said. Productivity is enhanced because people are forced to pay attention during a video call, Ferry said, noting that a meeting can take 15 minutes instead of 45 minutes. BroadCloud Video is a high-definition, always available service that businesses can use in a variety of environments.
Business users are accustomed to using a variety of communications methods – talking, calling, e-mail and instant messaging. They want to be able to use those methods on a variety of devices, Ferry explained.
The company plans to trial the video-conferencing service with operators soon, Ferry said, adding that operators can be commercially operating the service within a month after buying. BroadCloud Video is the first service offers as part of the company’s BroadCloud Unified Communications service, based on its BroadCloud cloud-based hosted infrastructure platform, which was introduced last fall.
“BroadCloud Video is designed to enable our service provider customers to offer a cost-effective, high-definition video conferencing service to businesses of all sizes, but we believe the pricing structure and minimal support requirements will be particularly attractive to mid-size businesses that are currently underserved by today’s video conferencing technology options,” said Michael Tessler, BroadCloud president and CEO. “The goal of BroadCloud Video is to accelerate the adoption of video conferencing, which we believe will improve the productivity of businesses by allowing users to seamlessly connect, collaborate and engage.”
The company’s MobileMxD is an integrated UC services product that specifically targets wireless operators to allow their customers to seamlessly collaborate across disparate networks and devices. The company, which went public in July 2010, offers its services to fixed, wireless, converged and cable operators as the service is network agnostic.
