TOKYO-Lucent Technologies Inc. said it plans to collaborate with Japanese company eAccess Ltd. to trial W-CDMA technology for mobile voice, data and multimedia services.
This trial will include HSDPA and Internet Protocol Multimedia subsystem.
EAccess does not currently offer mobile service in Japan. The company is the largest wholesale provider of ADSL services and one of the leading providers of broadband access services in Japan.
Based on this network, eAccess will provide its fixed and wireless customers with such high-speed downloads as film trailers and video clips of sporting and entertainment events; mobile access to e-mail with large attachments; the ability to locate nearby services such as ATMs, restaurants and movie theaters; and business-oriented services, according to Lucent.
