TI to showcase all-in-one platform

DALLAS-Texas Instruments will use the 3GSM World Congress as a platform to showcase its “All in One Entertainment” platform, the company said Thursday.

TI plans to tout its new OMAP2420 multimedia processor at the show, using developers to demonstrate the chip’s abilities to support 3G entertainment applications. OMAP Developer Network members scheduled to appear include Fathammer and Ideaworks3D (gaming); PacketVideo (digital TV) and Beatnik and Emuzed (multimedia applications).

“TI’s OMAP platform is driving 3G mobile entertainment today on NTT DoCoMo FOMA phones providing gaming, high-quality video, stereo audio and more,” said Koji Chiba, vice president and managing director of customer equipment for DoCoMo’s Development Department. “Integrating the OMAP 2 architecture within our jointly developed UMTS chipset, NTT DoCoMo anticipates further innovation in consumer electronics quality multimedia and entertainment thanks to the processing power of the OMAP 2 platform.”
