• China Mobile has completed field testing for pre-5G base stations. Partnered with ZTE to test pre-5G 3D/massive multiple-input, multiple-output technology, the company reports that the tests exceeded expectations and improved coverage in buildings and in rural areas. Both companies believe the new technology will accelerate the process of deploying 5G commercially.
• Vodafone India is expanding its 2G and 3G services. The company announced today that the services will launch in Lachung, Sikkim. Vodafone India is the first operator to launch in the area and will now cover more than 350 towns and villages with 181 cell sites across the state and plans to continue expanding its network.
• Dutch operator KPN is reportedly considering selling its 20.5% stake in German operator Telefonica Deutschland. Reuters reports that a chief executive told an investor that the company has not yet decided to sell and that the decision will ultimately depend on the price.
