SK Telecom raided
State prosecutors and the government descended on SK Telecom headquarters Tuesday. Agents raided the company’s headquarters in Seoul, seizing computer hard drives and documents related to the health care division of the company. The investigation is into whether SK Telecom illegally collected its users’ health records.
The investigation started in April after major credit card companies leaked consumer data. The leak has prompted the South Korean government to tighten private information laws.
EE teams up with Parallel Wireless
European carrier EE is set to deploy a new solution designed by U.S.-based Parallel Wireless. The solution is designed to improve mobile coverage in hard-to-reach parts of the United Kingdom. The Parallel Wireless product avoids the need for large masts and broadband or cabling by using a small antenna to wirelessly connect to the nearest macro base station.
RCR Wireless News was there as Steve Papa, co-founder of Parallel Wireless, officially launched Parallel Wireless at TC3 2014 in Mountain View, Calif.

Microsoft acquires email startup
Microsoft announced its acquisition of Acompli, a provider of a well-reviewed mobile email app for iOS and Android. The acquisition is part of an ongoing companywide effort to bring more utility to mobile devices. Similarly, Microsoft rolled out the Office software suite for iPhone and iPad, and is currently working on an analog rollout for Android.
Bharti Airtel and Vodafone running on expired spectrum permits
Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are seeking an extension with the telecom department after spectrum permits expired three days ago in Delhi. The carriers are reportedly seeking a 45-day extension. The companies allege releasing the spectrum would cause disruptions to some 20 million customers.
