Meyer also discussed a $2.2 million fine paid by carrier Cricket Wireless to the federal government. Apparently Cricket overcharged the U.S. Justice Department for wiretapping that took place in 2007.

TeliaSonera and Telenor today announced they’re merging operations in Denmark. The two Nordic opeators would each own 50 percent of the joint venture. The combined company is poised to hold 40 percent of the mobile market in Denmark, which amounts to about 3.5 million subscribers and annual revenues are projected at more than $1.5 billion. The deal is subject to approval by the European Union’s governing body.

Connected car correspondent Claudia Bacco is reporting on Porsche’s initiatives. The luxury manufacturer has invested $55 millionin a company called INRIX that is a leading provider of real time global traffic data.

In IT infrastructure news, Hewlett-Packard made a big announcement from Barcelona on Tuesday. HP unveiled two new mission critical server and cloud platorms designed to offer big customers like telecom carriers what they called “always on” capabilities. HP showcased the new Integrity Superdome X and Integrity Nonstop X platforms.

Also in hardware news, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority announced it’s beginning work on a $2.6 million upgrade to their wireless network. The work will increase the number of wireless access points from 113 up to 580, a more than 400 percent increase.
