Rappaport touches on the future of 5G and the engineering and spectrum allocations needed to support an eventual commercial deployment.
    • Verizon Wireless is apparently feeling the pinch of competition between carriers. The company says it lost more customers to rivals this quarter than it did in the previous quarter and the previous year. Mobile data discounts and device promotions are likely driving customers to Verizon’s competitors.
    • Hewlett-Packard is continuing its push into the network function virtualization space. HP’s new NFV Director 2.0 combines operations support with IT management into an NFV orchestration suite designed for telecom providers.
