Vodafone UK boss says customers don’t know what 4G is
Vodafone UK may come in second to EE when it comes to 4G network speeds, but according to CEO Jeroen Hoencamp, speed isn’t everything.
“Our 4G entertainment packs are massively successful for the simple reason that customers don’t buy 4G for the latest technology – they switch to Vodafone 4G because there’s particular content they want to access,” said Hoencamp. “Many customers don’t know what 4G is. Many customers don’t care what 4G is. All customers want is consistency, so that wherever they go they have a strong signal, so that they can do what they want wherever they are.”
Idea Cellular teams up with Microsoft
Microsoft Devices has teamed with Mumbai, India-based Idea Cellular for an initiative designed to allow Idea subscribers to purchase paid apps from the Windows Store through operator billing. The service will be available to both prepaid and postpaid subscribers using Lumia and Windows-based smartphones.
The news is significant because there are only 19 million credit cards in India.
Colombian provider Emcali selects Alepo to modernize infrastructure
Colombian provider Emcali, has chosen U.S. firm Alepo to modernize its AAA infrastructure across its multiple fixed and mobile broadband networks. The move will allow Emcali to enhance service offerings and customer experience, while building a larger customer base.
Orange Telecom looks at French consolidation
Orange may soon close a deal to sell its stake in U.K. operator EE. Reuters reports that Orange will then look for further consolidation in the French market after the deal is done.
British telecom group BT announced in December it had entered into talks with Orange and EE’s co-owner Deutsche Telekom to buy EE. BT has said it expects the deal to close by early 2016.
