ANDORRA LA VELLA, Andorra-Wireless carrier Servei de Telecomunicacions d’Andorra, which operates in the European country of Andorra, selected Nortel Networks Ltd. to provide a UMTS network.
Nortel did not disclose the value of the contract, but said it will provide circuit and packet core second- and third-generation gear as well as equipment for a small Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network pilot. The supplier also will provide STA with network planning and optimization and initial network start-up and operations support.
The network is expected to be fully operational by May when the state will host the “Games of the Small States of Europe,” a biennial competition between European countries with populations of less than 1 million.
