VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Sierra Wireless announced plans for a new embedded module for CDMA 1x-EV-DO networks that will be delivered in the second quarter.
The Sierra Wireless EM5625 will be the company’s first product to incorporate Qualcomm Inc.’s MSM6500 Mobile Station Modem chipset, and it has been selected by both Panasonic and @Road for integration into their products following its release.
Sierra said the dual-band module will offer “always on” voice, data and messaging functionality at typical data speeds of 300 to 500 kilobits per second, with bursts of up to 2.4 megabits per second.
“The ability to take advantage of higher wireless data transmission speeds brings original equipment manufacturers new opportunities to maximize the value wireless connections can add to their products,” said Dan Schieler, Sierra Wireless senior vice president of worldwide sales.
