Sprint announced new alterations to its Family Share Pack rate plans targeting new customers that at least for a limited time undercut similar offerings from rivals.
The changes saw the carrier launch a $90 per month plan that allows up to 10 new lines to share 12 gigabytes of unthrottled data, with each line also receiving unlimited domestic calling and messaging while on Sprint’s network. Sprint noted that the pricing is based on new lines of service for which it said it would not charge the typical per-line access charge through the end of March 2016, at which point each tablet will be charged $10 per month, each smartphone $15 per month and each mobile broadband device $20 per month.
The waived access charges are available for all shared-data plans beginning at 12 GB per month. Customers picking up new devices through Sprint will also have to tap the carrier’s Easy Pay or iPhone for Life plans, which will add monthly device payments on top of the rate plan.
Sprint launched its Family Share Pack plans last August, replacing the ill-received Framily plans with packages similar to shared-data plans offered by larger rivals AT&T Mobility and Verizon Wireless.
Sprint recently reported that it added 1 million net connections to its network during the final three months of last year, though noted that its branded postpaid offering accounted for just 30,000 net additions. That result was at last a strong improvement compared with the 336,000 postpaid connections it lost the previous quarter. By comparison, Sprint rival T-Mobile US said it added around 1.3 million branded postpaid connections during the fourth quarter of last year.
