HONG KONG-Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. said it became the first Chinese vendor to make third-generation handsets with the launch of three new UMTS devices at the 3G World Congress & Exhibition.
Huawei will add the 3G devices to batch production early next year, and the company is planning 3G mobile phones with push-to-talk functionality in the second quarter.
The three UMTS products the company announced are the U626 UMTS/GPRS dual-mode phone, the U326 UMTS single-mode phone and the E600 UMTS/GPRS/GSM data card.
The U626 has a 300,000-pixel camera lens and a 2.4-inch 260,000-color TFT QVGA high-definition color screen. The handset supports MP3, MPEG4 and 72 chord bell sounds.
The U326 supports WAP and multimedia messaging service data services, has a 1.8-inch 65K true-color screen and weighs 92 grams.
The E600 can provide wireless Internet surfing with a downlink speed of 384 kilobits per second and uplink of 128 kbps.
