SAN DIEGO-Investors continued to show their faith in wireless Tuesday with two new funding announcements.
Sky Mobile Media Inc. announced it has raised $6.25 million in Series A financing, with Enterprise Partners Venture Capital leading the round. The mobile software developer said it will use the cash to market Sky-Map, a software platform designed to help handset manufacturers and operators to develop phones and applications.
“Wireless handset manufacturers need a fully integrated software platform, which reduces handset development costs and accelerates time to market,” said Richard Sfeir, Sky Mobile’s president and chief executive officer. “This Series A equity funding will support Sky’s aggressive growth plans, enabling us to satisfy the strong market demand for our products.”
Also Tuesday, Sonim Technologies Inc. announced a $16 million financing round. Existing investors Accel Partners, Apax Partners, 3i Partners and BV Capital participated in the round, the mobile applications developer said.
The San Mateo, California-based company will use the funding to support its mobile Voice over Internet Protocol offerings such as push-to-talk technology.
“We are excited to have received the continued support from a truly world-class investor community,” said Terry Valeski, chairman of the board for Sonim. “The financing supports continued investment in product expansion, and solidifies Sonim’s strong market position in the global PTT and mobile VoIP space.”
Sonim has signed deals with the likes of Motorola Inc., Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. and others.
