Sprint PCS’ largest affiliate Alamosa Holdings Inc. reported 53,000 net customer additions during the third quarter, which was more than three times the 16,000 subscribers the carrier added during the third quarter of 2003. Alamosa said it ended the quarter with 866,000 total customers.
Bolstering the carrier’s strong customer growth was a drop in churn from 2.9 percent during the third quarter of 2003 to 2.4 percent this year, though customer turnover did increase from the 2.1 percent Alamosa reported during the second quarter of this year.
Average revenue per user remained steady year-over-year at $57, while the cost per gross addition dropped 14 percent from $408 during the third quarter of 2003 to $351 this year.
Total revenues increased 27 percent from $166.4 million during the third quarter of 2003 to $211.4 million this year, with roaming and wholesale revenues jumping more than 43 percent from $41.1 million last year to $59.1 million this year. Net losses also improved from a loss of $17.5 million during the third quarter of 2003, a loss of 19 cents per share, to a loss of $274,000 this year, or no loss per share.
