TAIPEI, Taiwan-Motorola Inc. announced one of Taiwan’s largest operators, Chunghwa Telecom, commercially deployed Push-to-Talk over Cellular services to its 8 million subscribers on its GPRS network.
The PoC service combines walkie-talkie and cellular-phone connectivity, allowing users to connect with another person or an entire group of contacts by pushing a button on a PoC-enabled handset.
Motorola said the contract brings its number of PoC awards worldwide for both CDMA2000 1x and GSM/GPRS networks to 18, and the supplier said it has several ongoing technical and commercial trials with leading operators in Asia Pacific.
