The five-year IBM partnership is valued at $200 million
IBM and Indonesian telecommunications firm Indosat Ooredoo signed a five-year partnership under which they will develop and deliver solutions on the IBM Cloud.
Under the terms of the agreement, IBM and Indosat Ooredoo will build an integrated command center to serve local clients of both companies by monitoring and managing their operations and information technology, and building IT skills and capabilities in Indonesia. IBM said it will also help Indosat Ooredoo transform its IT operations, improving overall client experience and supporting the rapid development of new telecommunications services in the country. IBM said the partnership is valued at approximately $200 million.
IBM and Indosat Ooredoo’s subsidiary, Lintasarta, are set to jointly develop and deliver cloud-based solutions, powered by IBM Bluemix cloud platform, which is designed to accelerate collaboration and automation of software delivery and infrastructure changes. Clients also will have access to IBM MaaS360, a cloud-based enterprise mobility management platform.
The two parties also announced a related five-year technology services agreement to deliver digital and operational transformation to all aspects of Indosat Ooredoo’s operations to support the development of new services. IBM will upgrade Indosat Ooredoo’s IT infrastructure and deliver application management services, including a test environment designed to improve time to market for the development of new services and applications.
China Mobile ends January with more than 335 million LTE subs
In other APAC news, China Mobile said it ended January with 335.5 million LTE subscribers, according to the operator’s latest available figures. At the end of the first month of the year, the operator counted 828.5 million total mobile subscribers.
China Unicom said it ended January with a 257.5 million subscribers, including 49.4 million LTE subscribers; and China Telecom said it ended January with 199 million total mobile subscribers, including 63.5 million LTE connections.
