Gordon Mansfield, VP Radio Access Network and Device Design at AT&T, talked to us about the evolution of voice services at AT&T, following the introduction of VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, as well as of new services such as NumberSync.
So is it Wi-Fi first or cellular first? “Customers want to be connected. They want to have a quality voice experience. If the quality experience is over Wi-Fi, great. If the quality experience is over LTE, then great as well. That’s our view on it: move the traffic where it needs to be to give the customer the best experience we can,” Gordon said.
NumberSync allows subscribers to be reached on multiple devices using their phone number. Gordon told us: “With NumberSync, you have a consistent phone-number experience, not just when people are calling you, but if you call them from any number of different devices, the number that gets displayed to them is your phone number that they might already know.
