Vodafone launches second phone-form BlackBerry

Research In Motion and Vodafone have released the BlackBerry 7100v, available exclusively for Vodafone’s subscribers.
Like the 7100t launched earlier this month with T-Mobile USA Inc., the 7100v features a phone design and uses RIM’s new SureType software to assist users in typing text messages.

The phone also features a large color screen, speakerphone capabilities, polyphonic ring-tone support, Bluetooth support, and a quad-band radio that allows for international roaming. The phone and SureType software will support various languages, including English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The device is also capable of connecting to BlackBerry Internet Service for individual users or to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for corporate users.

“Our business customers, particularly those who are self employed or running small to medium-sized businesses, have been asking us for a simple device that combines the efficiency and basic features of a mobile phone, with the benefits of being able to access e-mail and attachments on the move,” said Peter Bamford, chief marketing officer at Vodafone.

“The Blackberry 7100v offers a unique addition to the family of Vodafone business solutions and is the first in our planned portfolio of handheld business devices designed to make our customers’ lives easier, anytime, anywhere,” Bamford concluded.

The device will be available in Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom in October.
