How Open Standards Are Driving Smart City Innovation
Sean Tippett, Director of Smart Cities, Silver Spring Networks
More than 50 percent of the world’s population lives in urban areas—and by 2050, the United Nations expects an additional 2.5 billion people to live in cities. In this session, Sean Tippett, Director of Smart Cities at Silver Spring Networks, discusses how cities can prepare for the future challenges that will come with a growing urbanized population by leveraging open standards-based city-wide platforms for long term investments to improve civic infrastructure, while driving sustainability and efficiency initiatives. In his presentation, Mr. Tippett will detail case study examples from cities like Paris, which aims to reduce streetlight electricity consumption by 30% by 2020, and Miami, where Silver Spring worked with Florida Power & Light to deploy North America’s largest networked street lighting program of more than 500,000 street lights.
