SAN JOSE, Calif.-SiRF Technology Holdings Inc. will partner with Korean operator SK Telecom Co. Ltd. to develop and market a new location-based services platform, the companies announced Monday.
Under terms of the contract, SK Telecom will have exclusive rights to market network servers using SiRF’s global positioning system technology in CDMA markets. Additionally, SK Telecom will introduce handsets using the GPS-based SiRFstarIII architecture.
“SiRF’s leadership in providing high-performance multimode location technology to the mobile-phone industry fits well with SK Telecom’s vision of a market-leading flexible LBS platform,” said SK Telecom Vice President Se Hyn Oh. “SiRF’s ability to provide autonomous mobile-based, as well as assisted, mobile station location enables us to deploy a wide range of applications without major impact on operator networks.”
