Russian telecommunications operator MTS unveiled a cloud offering to target large enterprises. The cloud-based services are based on a VMware cloud platform and MTS’ data centers, and includes computing and data storage cloud solutions with disaster recovery options.
MTS said it had equipped its data centers in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Novosibirsk with new data storage systems and servers, with plans to upgrade additional data centers in other cities this year. The carrier is looking to enable various “as-a-service models” with the move.
“By adopting cloud services, companies can achieve a threefold reduction in their IT infrastructure costs,” explained Vladimir Khrenkov, director of the MTS Innovation Center. “With such clear economic savings, as well as the flexibility and simplicity of cloud management, we see great demand for our corporate cloud services.”
Bouygues Telecom to offer FTTH through Altitude’s fiber infrastructure
French telecommunications firm Bouygues Telecom inked an agreement to start providing a fiber-to-the-home service in partnership with compatriot firm Altitude Infrastructure.
Under terms of the deal, Bouygues Telecom will offer fiber technology to both retail and business customers through Altitude’s network infrastructure. Altitude Infrastructure specializes in public initiative networks, which are deployed in areas where telecoms operators did not make investments in infrastructure. PINs are backed by public money and must get approval from local and European regulators.
Altitude Infrastructure said it currently passes 1 million premises with FTTH in 19 PINs across the European country. The agreement with Bouygues will cover all Altitude’s PINs, although it will initially focus on two in the east of France that represent 670,000 customers.
The two firms expect to begin a trial phase in September, with Altitude set to market the new services next year.
