STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson signed a GSM expansion contract with Chongqing Mobile Communications Co. to supply infrastructure equipment with EDGE capability under a $27 million deal.
Implementation has already begun and should be completed by year-end. The upgrade will increase total network capacity to 6 million subscribers.
The Chinese wireless carrier said it would be able to roll out high-speed data services and new applications following the GSM expansion.
