ZenZui is rebranding as it prepares to release an open-access beta version of its widget-based application.
The Microsoft Corp. spinoff changed its name to Zumobi to underscore the “zooming” user interface of its flagship offering, which uses a matrix of up to 36 tiles. The tiny icons serve as portals for partners including Nike and the Fox network, allowing users one- or two-click access to content.
The new Zumobi application will be offered for devices running Windows Mobile 5 or 6 beginning December 14; a beta version of the software development kit will also be available. The company will offer BlackBerry devices and “selected” J2ME-compatible handsets in the second quarter of 2008.
The ad-supported application is free to consumers, who can register for the beta offering here. Zumobi shares revenues with advertisers using both CPM (cost per thousand impressions) and pay-per-action advertising models.
