Regional carrier Pocket Communications said its customer base in south Texas reached 170,000 subscribers, 17 months after the company began offering a flat-rate wireless service that competes with larger carriers such as Leap Wireless International Inc.
Pocket, which serves the greater San Antonio area, Laredo and the Lower Rio Grande Valley, said it doubled its customer base in a little more than eight months.
The company’s service does not require a contract or credit check. Pocket’s plans include a $28 per month unlimited calling plan within the company’s local calling area, as well as unlimited incoming text messages. For $37 per month, the service includes caller ID, call waiting and voicemail, plus unlimited domestic long distance, local calling, picture messaging and text messaging.
The company recently added unlimited text messaging to Mexico as part of its $37 per month plan.
