Customers mix a lot of music

CHICAGO-Consumers downloaded a diverse selection of karaoke music into their handsets over the past two months. First International Digital Inc. launched its Mobile Karaoke service in late May through Verizon Wireless’ Get It Now. FID said it is the first and only U.S. service that allows customers to download karaoke songs and display synchronized lyrics and images on their handsets.

Since the launch, the following songs are the most downloaded:

1. “Nuthing But A G Thang,” Dr. Dre

2. “Respect,” Aretha Franklin

3. “Complicated,” Avril Lavigne

4. “Waiting for Tonight,” Jennifer Lopez

5. “Beat It,” Michael Jackson

6. “A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action,” Toby Keith

7. “Stairway to Heaven,” Led Zeppelin

8. “Celebration,” Kool and the Gang

9. “Goodbye to You,” Michelle Branch

10. “Basket Case,” Green Day

“We’re pleased that a wide range of musical genres are represented in the Top 10 list, including hip-hop, Motown, pop, classic rock, punk rock and country,” said Randy Cavaiani, EVP of software products at FID. “The popularity of Mobile Karaoke indicates that the service not only appeals to traditional karaoke fans but to music fans in general, who enjoy the high-quality sound and presentation available via the handset.”

Consumers can purchase polyphonic MIDI karaoke songs for $1.25, or in bundles of three ($3.49), or six ($5.99) units. Users can store and manage purchased songs on their handsets or archive songs in their personal vaults.
