Wireless gaming publisher Jamdat Mobile Inc. filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed public offering of common stock. The company, which has agreements to distribute its application in 38 countries through 72 wireless carriers, said it has yet to determine the number of shares or pricing of the offer, and it will issue and sell a portion of the shares with another portion sold by certain stockholders. Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch & Co. are acting as joint book-running managers of the offering, and UBS Investment Bank will serve as joint lead manager.
PolyFuel Inc. said it closed an $18.4 million third round of funding. The new funds bring the five-year-old company’s total investments to about $40 million. The latest funding was led by CDP Capital-Private Equity and includes existing investors Mayfield, Ventures West, Technology Partners, Intel Capital and Chrysalix Energy, as well as five new investors. The company develops portable fuel cells, which have the potential to become a power source for mobile devices.
Global Signal Inc. announced it has completed the acquisition of Tower Ventures III L.L.C. for $52 million in cash, plus fees and expenses. The 97 wireless towers are concentrated in Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri and Arkansas. In all, Global Signal has acquired 214 wireless towers for $101.6 million since the start of the year, bringing the total number of towers the company owns and manages to more than 3,200.
Wireless entertainment content provider Mforma Group Inc. announced it has established Mforma China, a Chinese subsidiary based in Shanghai licensed to do business in the country. “We are prepared to take full advantage of the enormous wireless market and demand for wireless content in China,” said Daniel Kranzler, Mforma’s chief executive officer. “Our desire has been to establish a strong, local, in-country presence as the best way to understand and meet the needs of wireless operators and subscribers in China.”
