Indonesian online news agency Tempo Interactive reports that the country’s largest telecoms group PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) plans to launch the Telkom-3 satellite before the end of the year. According to the company’s corporation communications director, Eddy Kurnia, the USD200 million satellite is being built at the ISS-Reshetney factory in Russia, while French firm Thales Aleniaspace is working on the sub-system. ‘The completion and the launch are scheduled for the end of 2011,’ said Eddy. The Telkom-3 orbiter is being constructed based on a new medium-class platform dubbed ‘Ekspress-1000N’, and will carry 32 C-band transponders and ten Ku-transponders, equivalent to 49 TPE.
