SAN DIEGO-Novatel Wireless Inc. said its UMTS-based wireless PC Card modem has received the approval of the Federal Communications Commission.
The product, the Merlin U520, jointly developed with Lucent Technologies Inc. will be used for trials by Cingular Wireless in the Atlanta market, according to Novatel.
“We have launched our Merlin U530 UMTS Wireless PC Card with six operators in eight countries on 3G UMTS networks across Europe and Asia Pacific,” said Peter Leparulo, chief executive officer for Novatel. “We believe that the approval in North America for Merlin U520 is a crucial milestone in achieving the same success in conjunction with UMTS deployments in North America.”
