Verizon purchases Ark. spectrum

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless purchased a 10-megahertz section of a C-block PCS license from American Wireless License Group L.L.C. covering 1.1 million potential customers in the Little Rock and Pine Bluff, Ark., basic trading areas for $7.75 million in cash. The carrier said the license coverage area includes parts of Interstates 40 and 30, and it lies adjacent to its license areas in Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Verizon Wireless currently serves the area through roaming agreements and plans to launch its own service in the markets beginning next year.
