STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson announced two contracts this week, one worth $1.5 billion and the other valued at $120 million.
The company signed a 10-year $1.5 billion contract with MTN Group in Sub-Sahara Africa, and it will involve equipment supply and delivery for both core and radio access networks.
MTN covers countries such as Swaziland, Rwanda, Uganda, Cameroon, Nigeria and South Africa. Most of these networks use GSM technology, although Ericsson did not disclose what protocol the contracts will cover.
The other contract, worth $120 million, was signed with Indonesia player Indosat to seamlessly integrate its two GSM networks as well as expand network capacity.
Ericsson will also help the carrier transition to multimedia services through EDGE technology.
Both contracts also involve management and professional services.
