BEIJING-In a move that will ramp up its market share in CDMA technology, Lucent Technologies Inc. has signed contracts worth more than $120 million with China Unicom.
The deal will cover provinces including Shandong, Hubei, Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi.
According to the contract, Lucent will supply CDMA2000 1x equipment, including base stations and switches that will enable the operator to offer dynamic services such as video on demand, video streaming and high-speed Internet access to its numerous subscribers.

The announcement comes a day after Lucent settled with the Securities and Exchange Commission over a three-and-half-year investigation into its accounting practices.
Rival Nortel Networks Ltd. has failed to focus the attention of Wall Street on its contract wins and technology advances in the light of SEC investigations, class-action lawsuits and the firing of some of its top executives.
