The telecommunications sector lost 2,600 jobs in November, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics report. The government agency noted that the telecommunications subsector employed 841,300 people in November, down from the 843,900 reported for October.
While the telecom sector is still up from the low of 809,600 employed in August of this year, the latest results continued a three-month drop in employment across the sector, which is down nearly 45,000 jobs from last year. The sequential increase bumped up the sector’s unemployment rate from 7.3% in October to 7.8%.
The telecom results were contrary to an overall drop in unemployment across the country, which dropped from 9% in October to 8.6% in November.
