A pair of Motorola Inc. subsidiaries filed a lawsuit against Aruba Networks Inc. alleging patent infringement related to wireless local area network communication technologies. Motorola’s Symbol Technologies Inc. and Wireless Valley Communications Inc. filed the lawsuit yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
Two of the patents in the lawsuit relate to WLAN switching architecture technology developed by Symbol, while another pair of patents cited in the suit relate to WLAN site planning and RF management, according to an announcement by Motorola.
The companies are seeking a permanent injunction against Aruba’s use of the patented technologies and monetary damages for infringing use, according to the announcement.
Aruba said it has not yet seen the suit and therefore can’t comment on the issue. The company also noted its policy not to publicly discuss pending litigation.
The lawsuit is just the latest allegation of patent-infringement in the wireless industry. Such lawsuits often become critical to companies that rely on the strength of their patents, and the revenues from patent licensing deals.
