GREENSBORO, N.C.-Mobile-phone chipmaker RF Micro Devices Inc. said its revenues for the quarter will come in at the high end of its expectations of between $152 million and $163 million. The company said it is experiencing strong customer demand and anticipates increasing sales in the coming quarter as well.
RF Micro Devices watched its stock fall slightly after Nokia Corp. said it will sell fewer mobile phones in the first quarter than expected. RF Micro Devices is one of Nokia’s main chip suppliers. RF Micro Devices will formally announce its quarterly earnings April 27.
In other phone news, Chinese mobile-phone maker Amoi Electronics Company Ltd. said it will use reference designs from Ericsson Mobile Platforms for its new DA6 GPRS device. Ericsson competes with such players as Motorola Inc. and Texas Instruments in marketing the technology platforms in handhelds.
“We selected its GPRS platforms due to its feature set, flexibility and high level of integration,” said Li Xiaozhong, president of Amoi. “Furthermore, the application suite developed for GPRS can easily be re-used on Ericsson W-CDMA platforms in the future.”
Separately, Chinese phone maker Qiao Xing Universal Telephone Inc. said it will use GPRS chips from Skyworks Solutions Inc.
